NRAA Pediatric Dialysis Education Series
Over the past two decades, the incidence of chronic kidney disease in children has steadily risen in the United States. Pediatric dialysis providers face a unique set of challenges when treating these young patients. In recognition of this, the NRAA Pediatric Dialysis Education Series was developed to address these emerging issues and provide solutions for professionals in the pediatric dialysis community. This four-part webinar series will address quality of life,leadership communication skills, patient and family education and staffing model strategies for pediatric dialysis providers. This series has been approved for 1 CE contact hour per webinar.

Quality of Life Measurement to Intervention in Pediatric Dialysis
Quality of life (QOL) is generally defined as a “broad multidimensional concept that usually includes subjective evaluations of both positive and negative aspects of life,” while health-related quality of life is “..aspects of overall quality of life that can be clearly shown to affect health—either physical or mental.” In the area of Renal dialysis, we know that quality of life has been associated with adherence and morbidity/mortality rates. Therefore, it is imperative that we consider patients’ QOL when working with this population. In addition to a general discussion of quality of life, we will also review assessment tools to measure patient QOL, as well as consider interventions to improve QOL – and ideally health outcomes- for these patients.
